Who I am

I am the artistic director of Salt and Sage and a freelance director based out of Portland Oregon.

Despite almost two decades in the Pacific Northwest, I still consider myself an ABQ girl and am a proud graduate of the University of New Mexico.

I did my graduate work at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton Virginia. There I earned an MLITT and an MFA in Shakespeare in Performance. For my thesis project, I directed a four person adaptation of William Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida.

While at Mary Baldwin, I served as assistant to the director for Tina Packer on Pericles, stage managed for Rob Clare on Taming of the Shrew, and studied directing under Giles Block. While at Mary Baldwin I interned as the dramaturg for Tamburlaine and as the assistant to the director for 2 Henry IV at The American Shakespeare Center. In that same period, I also served as the FAIR assistant director on Ghost Light at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Since then my directing journey has largely led me to new work exploring trauma and Shakespeare. On the new work front, I have directed world premieres by Michael Eichler, Mikki Gillette, and Bruce Hostetler. On the Shakespeare front, I have directed 15 of his plays - some multiple times. My desert island plays are Troilus and Cressida and Hamlet.

My favorite form of creative rest is wandering a museum. I am a life long bookworm and you can follow my reading peaks and troughs on Goodreads and/or StoryGraph. I am on instagram at @ciderbird.
